BC Hockey Associations to Host The First Shift Program
Wednesday, May 25, 2016

Fourteen (14) BC Hockey Minor Hockey Associations (MHAs) across the province have been selected to host The First Shift Program. The program is a recruitment initiative that will help Associations and Hockey Canada Branches grow their membership by breaking down the barriers normally associated with playing hockey by making the sport safe and accessible to all Canadians.

The following MHAs have been selected:

Fall Program – 45 participant program

Maple Ridge

Port Alberni

Port Moody

Fall Program – 30 participant program

100 Mile House

Salmon Arm

Winter Program – 45 participant program

The First Shift is a learn-to-play hockey program for kids aged 6 – 10. With an emphasis on fun, the program allows kids to easily try hockey for $199, which includes enrollment for a six (6) week on-ice curriculum and head-to-toe Bauer equipment that each child can keep. The initiative began in 2012 with four (4) pilot programs in Ontario and Nova Scotia, and expanded the following year to 40 and doubled to 80 programs in the 2015-2016 season.

The First Shift was created with the goal of creating an exceptional first experience in hockey not only for young players, but for their entire family.

Based on surveys of families and parents who children participated in The First Shift, 86 per cent of participants re-enrolled into hockey in The First Shift Transition Program, 100 percent of parents said their kids had fun and 100 per cent of parents would recommend the program to a friend.

Our very own Peewee Reps, the 100 Mile Peewee T3 Primal Electric Wranglers have advanced to the second round of the Cariboo Amateur Hockey Associations (CAHA) League playoffs!

They defeated the Prince George Cougars Peewee T3 team 10-5 and 9-6 this past weekend in 2 hard fought games at the South Cariboo Rec Centre. The team moves on to play the league’s 1st place team, the Quesnel Thunder T3, in Quesnel, February 21 & 22. This is a best 2 out of 3 series with game 3, if necessary, being played in 100 Mile House on Saturday, February 28 at 11:30am.

The winner of the series goes on to represent the CAHA and North Central District in the Peewee Tier 3 BC Provincial Championships, March 15-20, 2015 in Kitimat.

The 100 Mile Midget T3 Mayvin Plumbing & Heating Milers went down 2-0 to the Prince George Cougars Midget T3 team this past weekend. Although 100 Mile played some of the best hockey they have played all season, they lost Friday night 3-0 and Saturday 3-2.
